Metropolitan Thames Valley Housing (MTVH) Challenge Procuring Goods, Services and Works with Extreme Urgency

John Wallace, Director of Procurement, Metropolitan Housing​

Pivotel to MTVH’s approach is the assurance of the safety and wellbeing of all their customers, particularly older people and those who may be at risk. Procurement is considered to have an important role in supporting MTVH in responding to the Covid-19. John will talk about Procurements response to Covid-19, ensuring that MTVH can procure goods, services and works with extreme urgency. He’ll go through the various strategies MTVH will be applying, including how they will be procureing and placing contracts with suppliers within 24-48 hours, where a preferred supplier has been identified and the onboarding of suppliers within 24 hours of the request.

Bank of England’s Responding Rising to the Challenge of Covid 19

Andrew will be giving a rare insight into the Bank of Englands response, how they have mobilised their work forces, the implications for Business Continuity Plans and in turn what the impact will be on their current and future suppliers. What the Banks long term business recovery will look like for future and current suppliers, including the possibility of releasing retention monies on construction projects and upfront payments to suppliers.

Seeing it from Peabody’s perspective Jody will talk about how Peabody will be addressing the short medium and long term touching on how the crisis will impact on dynamic purchasing systems, how and what kinds of coping mechanisms will be put into place if / when we go into a recession, what are the implications for social housing providers and in turn suppliers.

Learn from Procurement Experts

Kirsty Bower

Head of Procurement and Commercial Management, Clarion

Kirsty has a wealth of experience spanning the entire procurement process, in both the private a public sector. A flare for managing highly skilled teams alongside her ingenuity and innovative nature has led her to subsequent key procurement roles within the Inland Revenue and Customs and the National Audit Office. With the prospect of new challenges, she decided to focus on the Social Housing Sector. Her exceptional bank of specialist knowledge and experience allowed her to ascend the ranks at various different Housing Associations, culminating to her position as Head of Procurement for Europe’s largest Housing

Jody Adams

Head of Procurement, Peabody

Jody Adams is the Head of Procurement and Payments at Peabody, one of London’s oldest and largest housing associations with around 66,000 properties across London and the South East.  Leading the centralised Procurement function, he has responsibility for third party supplier spend of circa £550m split over its 3500+ supply chain ensuring social value, value for money and compliance (amongst other things) are delivered. With over 22 years working in Local Government and the Housing Sector Jody’s proudest moment was being given the opportunity to re-establish Procurement at Peabody and see them through the merger with Family Mosaic leveraging the most out of two large organisations coming together.

John Wallace

John began his career as a laboratory assistant before becoming a qualified master brewer. Having spent 10 years in brewing production, John moved onto various procurement roles in the brewing industry prior to spending 2 years in the food sector working for one of the country’s leading chilled food producers. In 2006, he joined the NHS, being involved in the growth and development of two regional collaborative procurement organisations before moving to Housing and joining Anchor Hanover Trust in 2013. John is currently Procurement Director at Metropolitan Thames Valley Housing.

University of Greenwich

Vincent John is a dedicated Procurement and Supply Chain professional with diverse corporate management experience gained in a range of public service organisations in the UK Local Government and Higher Education (HE) sectors. Vincent has deployed his skills in various large public sector organisations setting up Supply Chain and Procurement systems before moving to the University Sector. He has combined his professional work with commitment to mobilising and contributing to African-Caribbean and other communities in the UK.

Andrew Taylor

Head of Property and Commercial Services, Bank of England

Andrew is an experienced programme, change, and commercial leader with diverse experience across the private and public sectors, from both client and service provider perspectives.

He has worked with clients ranging from SMEs to large corporates and a range of public sector organisations. He has led and been responsible for the success of programmes and procurement projects ranging from £25k to £250m in value.

Antony Silk

Director of Procurement, Optivo.

In a career spanning private practice, local authority, housing co-ops and registered providers, Antony brings over thirty years of experience in the housing sector delivering services focused on customer empowerment, compliance and safety.

As Director of Procurement at Optivo, Antony is energised through creative solutions, the social value proposition and contracting through relationships.  As Board member of SEC, he is an avid supporter of developing future solutions and thinking for the sector.
